Challenge 2.008

The challenge laid down by a friend: get back on the horse and write a “mainstream” script. I accepted and raised the stakes: not one script but two! So Psycho Ex and Dead Guy (working titles) are moving along. Deadline: December 31, 2007 2008.

Current Status (05/22/08):

Back burner = Psycho Ex. 68 pages written (script + outline document). Act Two underway, which is outlined but getting more specific. This is the much more “mainstream” script to write: all plot, few ideas.

Front burner = Dead Guy. 65 pages written (script + outline document). Into Act Two new with good story momentum. I have a very deep connection to this territory. There is definitely something here for me. This is the much more rewarding but more difficult script to write. May or may not fulfill original requirement of “mainstream.” May actually be a novel and not a screenplay.

I love that the surprise element is experienced by authors as well as readers. Stephen King once wrote (I am paraphrasing) that his characters often act differently than how he assumed they would at the beginning of a project.

Once the creative process begins, even the author/creator doesn’t know what to fully expect.

What percentage of each script would you say has been done?

  3. Robb Says:

As of 9/12, Psycho Ex is probably 35-40% done. I won’t even venture a guess on Dead Guy, which will not be finished this year. Psycho Ex will be completed by the end of this year.

The full rundown on the “Projects” page (tab on top of every page) gives a better idea of my progress than a flat perecntage number, and it is updated regularly.
